Man Cave Back in Business

Over the last six months (probably more), the man cave has fallen into serious disrepair. Game night has been sporadic at best, and most of the gaming I've done has been at The Dugout rather than at home. Recently, though, my brother and I have started talking about getting game night going again. I knew that it would be pretty tough without a usable man cave, though. Tonight, while taking a "short" break from working on grad school work, I decided to clean it up a bit. Just for kicks, I decided to share some pics. And while I'm at it, I figure it can't hurt to show off one of the coolest presents I've gotten in quite some time.

And that cool present I mentioned... Thanks, Leyka!
Now I guess I should get back to this paper I'm trying to write...

Wasteland 2 Kickstarter

I have a ton of school work to do, but I just read an email from my brother and had to share this with the world...

The Dugout Launches New Website (And Other News)

Almost a year ago, when I first wrote about The Dugout, Tim had a website but wasn't satisfied enough with it that he wanted it publicized. Things have changed. He's still hard at work creating a site that lives up to his expectations, but he's well on his way, and he was okay adding the new site to the Facebook fan page, so I'm going to assume he's okay with me posting about it here.

Enough build-up already... the new site is here: The Dugout Cards and Games

Other Dugout news I've failed to mention:

  • Expansion! The Dugout has expanded into the space of a neighboring shop that closed down and is now twice as big as it used to be! That means a ton of extra space for gaming...
  • Comics! Yep, that's right. The Dugout sells comics now.
  • Legacy! There's another legacy tournament this Saturday (3/17) at 2:00. I don't know if it will always be this way, but it's looking like there will be a legacy tournament on the third Saturday of each month. If you've got a deck you haven't played in ages and want to dust it off, bring it out to The Dugout!
  • Casual Night! There aren't any tournaments on Tuesday nights, and that means that there's plenty of room for people to just come in and play whatever. Whether you're looking to test a new deck or mix it up in some multiplayer, you can usually find someone on Tuesday afternoon to play whatever you're looking for... which leads me to...
  • Warhammer 40K! I was shocked and amazed to see a handful of 40K players last week when I stopped in, and even more this week. I haven't heard anything about competitive 40K, but the casual crowd is growing. If you play 40K, and you've been (like me) dissatisfied by the sporadic Hobbytown tournaments in Hickory, The Dugout might be the place to get your game on.
If you're a gamer in Hickory, you're missing out if you don't stop by The Dugout... seriously.

Rifts Miniatures on the Horizon?

BIG NEWS! Over on the Palladium Books website, Kevin is talking about Rifts miniatures... the old ones back in production again, the release of brand new miniatures, and the possibility of a Rifts miniatures game. Specifically, he said:
I met with Carmen Bellaire on Monday and Wednesday to discuss the re-release of out of print Rifts® miniatures like the Glitter Boy, Cyborgs and Coalition Soldiers, as well as a dozen new, NEVER BEFORE RELEASED Rifts® miniatures. We’ll probably be releasing these as single figures at around $6-$7 each.
Rifts® (and Robotech®?) Miniatures. Carmen Bellaire and I also continue to discuss the feasibility of releasing a Rifts® and/or Robotech® miniatures game even if it’s on a limited basis to start. Let us know whether you might be interested in such products.
In addition to Carmen’s efforts, Palladium has been approached by two different people about making a Robotech® miniatures game. We are currently entertaining the possibilities.
You can find the rest of the update here.

In my humble opinion, this is HUGE. I've been struggling to find decent miniatures to use for Rifts games for ages. I even posted about using Star Wars miniatures for Rifts back in 2009. The idea that there will be new official miniatures coming soon is great by itself... but the idea of an actual Rifts miniatures game just puts the whole thing over the top. Personally, I'd love to see Palladium Books partner with WizKids for some plastic minis and some game mechanics similar to HeroClix. That might be a stretch, but I'm a big fan of pre-painted plastic miniatures.

Kevin, you mentioned letting you know if we are interested in these products. Consider this post my display of interest. I know this blog isn't as high profile as a lot of others out there, but if Palladium Books can get some new miniatures on the market, I would be glad... no, I would be honored to showcase them here.

Now that I think about it, I still need to finish painting my line walker mini... I think I'll work on that some next weekend...
