Underdark Campaign

Campaign Overview:
This is a weekly/bi-weekly sandbox style Pathfinder game that is set in the Forgotten Realms, and that has many plot elements that are closely tied to the Underdark.
  • Setting: The campaign's events take place on the continent of Faerun, in the year of rogue dragons (1373 DR). This is pre-Spellplague, so most 2E and 3E maps are still relevant, but many 4th Edition maps aren't. I'm taking a lot of creative license with the Underdark, so if you're a huge Drizzt fan, you might find that things aren't exactly where they should be based on canon.
  • Game System: It's primarily a Pathfinder game, but I have played so much D&D 3.5 that sometimes my mind switches back and forth between the two systems during play. The differences are minor, and it hasn't been too big of an issue thus far. We do use a combat grid whenever available. Combat plays a significant role in the game, but many challenges can be overcome without it.
  • Sandbox Style: Games typically come in two forms: those that force you to play one part before you go on to the next, and games that let you explore most of the world at your own pace. This campaign is much more of the latter. I don't think I counted, but at a recent session, I'm pretty sure we named a half dozen plot hooks that the party could follow up on at any time, and that isn't including the option to just go exploring.

When & Where:
We play at The Dugout on Thursdays from 5:00 until we get to an appropriate stopping point (or they run us out). We usually start wrapping things up around 9:00 or so.

Interested in Joining?
We currently have four regular players and a host of people who have expressed interest, but haven't actually joined us. It would be nice to round out the party with a few extra people.
  • Player Types Wanted: Experienced players are welcome, but grumpy rules lawyers I can do without. To speed up play, any rules inquiry or dispute that comes up will be subject to an on-the-fly ruling by the GM. We'll figure out official rulings during down time. New players are welcome. I'll be glad to generate stats for new players if I know they need help.
  • Contact the Game Master: Real life is always more current than whatever has been posted here, so to avoid wasting your time, start by contacting me (Josh) at theoutsyder83@outsydergaming.com. Let me know that you're interested in playing, and I'll give you an update on anything that might have changed since I last updated here (for example, we might be meeting at a different time).
  • Get Caught Up: If you want to check out the story so far, check out summaries of what has happened before by clicking here.
  • Create Your Character: New players should create a character whose level is equal to the level of the lowest "regular" player's character using the Pathfinder rules (click here if you don't have the core rulebook). Follow these guidelines:
  • Ability Scores: Roll 4d6 six times, dropping the lowest die with each roll. Arrange your six scores however you want. Alternatively, you can also use the High Fantasy point buy method.
  • Alignment: Any non-evil
  • Other character details: Click here to answer questions about your character in the player survey. Beyond this, feel free to be as descriptive as you want when developing your character history.
  • Non-Pathfinder Materials: Anything produced by Wizards of the Coast for the D&D 3E or D&D 3.5 systems is fine as long as it was written for either generic D&D or Forgotten Realms. Check out the Pathfinder Conversion Guide to see how to update these materials to the Pathfinder rules system. Other materials (such as those written for Eberron or by 3rd party publishers) may be acceptable, but clear them with the GM first.
